Iron Filter Installation Instructions:

Find the main water supply line. If you're not sure how to do that Click Here.

You will have a large tank with a riser tube inside--start with this tube. Leave the tube INSIDE the tank at all times. Place the tank in the position where it will be plumbed in, as it will be too heavy to lift after it's filled with mineral and water. You want to plumb it in after the well pump, but before the water line "Ts". It's a good idea to keep the filter 10 ft. (of plumbing pipe, not 10 ft. of distance) from the hot water heater to prevent the filter from taking in heat and damaging it.

Cover the riser tube (a sandwich baggie and a rubber band is a good idea). The tube may come with a blue cap already on it. If this is the case, you don't need a baggie. Before you assemble the unit (after you pour in the mineral), you MUST remove this cap. But leave it on until all the mineral has been poured into the tank. You will find a blue funnel in your kit--use this funnel to add the mineral to the tank.

Pour the Garnet into the tank first (all of it). The Garnet is the mineral that comes in a clear bag and looks different from the mineral (Terminox) that comes in all of the cardboard boxes. The Garnet is multi-colored, where the Terminox is black. Then add the Terminox (sometimes called Manganese on the bag) on top of the Garnet base. Make sure you leave 12 inches of air space in the top of the Terminox tank; sometimes you receive more Terminox than necessary. Just close the leftover Terminox in a bag so that no little critters can get in there and the Terminox will last for years until you need to add more. NOTE: Not all mineral tanks will have 12 inches of air space some may be more.

Some applications will receive a small amount of Mineral Treatment. This will go on top of the Terminox media.

GARNET IRON MINERAL MINERAL TREATMENT

Do not get anything other than water into the riser tube.

It is fine, however, to get water in the tube. Fill the tank with water.

NOTE: If you purchased a chem feeder to regulate your pH it is very important that you install your chem feed and have a pH of 7.5 or higher. You never want to expose your Terminox to acidic water. Acidic water would be anything below 7.0.

Follow the directions that arrive with the control valve for assembly.

After adding water to the tank please screw on the control valve and then plumb your new Pyrolox or Terminox Iron Sulfur and Manganese filter in. Then follow the directions that came with the control valve.

Before you screw it on turn it over and make sure the o-ring on the bottom of the control valve that seals the top of the tank with the control valve is still in place. Sometimes they fall into the box they came in. You should not throw any boxes or wrapping away until you are COMPLETELY finished with your installation.

When you screw on the control valve just get it "SNUG" don't "crank it down".

Plumb in the unit.

NOTE: When facing the unit the in line is on the left hand side. That is where you want your raw water to come in. The outlet is on the right hand side this is where your treated will come out. The small port in between is your drain line and will be run to the drain.

It's a great idea to purchase a small metal clamp at the hardware store to secure your plastic tubing as the water pressure can be strong coming out of the iron filter.

Follow the instructions that came with the control valve for start up. Terminox likes to be cleaned every day, especially if you have high iron content.

DRAIN LINE: Your drain line in most cases should be clear 1/2" inner diameter flexible plastic tubing that is available in almost all hardware stores. It is very inexpensive and requires no HARD ELBOWS. Try to never use hard 90 degree elbows on your drain line. If you simply must use 1 or 2 you may want to step up to a 3/4" drain or larger. You also don't want the drain line to run more than 20 ft.

NOTE: The 9", 10", and 12" Terminox come with an external flow control for the drain. This is usually white plastic and connects between the control valve and drain line.

VERY IMPORTANT!!! DO THIS FIRST! Push the manual regeneration button (the one with 3 arrows & a triangle).

When the directions for the control valve tells you to put the unit in backwash and run the water down the drain line until it runs clear, they don't tell you it will sometimes take a very long time. It is a great time to get dinner or read a bedtime story. Or do the dinner dishes for the wife....

NOTE: On initial backwash, mineral dust can clog a drain. We suggest that you run the drain line to an alternative source. After the drain line runs clear return it to the existing drain.

When first running the water to drain you will see a lot of black stuff going down the drain. You may even see that you have lost a few handfuls of Terminox. All of this is normal. The first time or two that the unit regenerates you may see some dark color to the water. This will go away and it will stop completely. After the backwash and when the mineral has settled use a black marker and using a flash light mark the level on the back of the mineral tank. This will enable you to keep track of your Terminox levels throughout the years.

NOTE: If you purchased an iron filter in combination with a water softener make sure that the time setting is set for two hours earlier then the water softener. If you didn't purchase a water softener and purchased an acid neutralizer be sure to install the acid neutralizer prior to the iron filter and off-set the backwash time by two hours as well.

The iron filter's control head, after it's assembled, will have an intake water valve and an out-take water valve. The intake valve is the one on the right hand side (if you're looking at the valves) and the out-take valve is on the left. You run the first plumbing pipe to the intake and out-take plumbing will be the one farther in the line towards where the plumbing tees off.

Iron Filter Programming Instructions:

To return to an un-programmed state:

Press and hold set and down button together for 5 seconds.

Then press and hold set button for 5 seconds.

You will now see three flashing lines:

Use the arrows to choose F for filter mode.

Press the set button to accept.

A. Time of day will be displayed.

1. Press the set button to make it flash.

2. Use arrows to set correct time.

3. Press the set button to accept.

B. Set day of week. Repeat steps 1,2, and 3 above.

C. Set time of regeneration. Repeat steps 1,2, and 3 above.

D. Set days to regenerate to 1.

E. Set backwash time to 14.

The unit will now display the time.

To put in Manual Regeneration

For preset time to regenerate: Press and release manual regeneration button.

For immediate regeneration: Press and hold manual regeneration button for 5 seconds.

NOTE: For Terminox Filters, Once unit is in backwash C1 will be displayed. Unplug unit from electrical supply until the water runs clean to the drain. Once it is running clean to the drain, plug unit back in and let it finish the regeneration cycle. This will take about 1 1/2 hours.

NOTE: In your manual it may say you need experience or training to install these units. However, they can be easily installed by any handy person. We have the experienced and trained technicians to guide you through the installation 7 days a week.
